In 2024, the completely new NAVIGO Fisheries Museum opened its doors.
Come and meet Valentijn the sperm whale, who washed ashore on the beach of Oostduinkerke in 1989. His impressive 13-meter-long skeleton is now on display in a specially designed wing of the museum.
The new museum layout tells the story of the fishing industry in all its aspects: from local heroes like the Iceland voyagers and beach fishermen to fishing families and their lives at sea and on land.
Familiar highlights have also been refreshed and are once again on full display. Think of the beautiful ship models, the wooden coastal fishing vessel OD.1 Martha, the North Sea animals in the aquariums, the rich art collection, or the iconic fisherman's cottage.
